Towards closer business and economic relations between Lithuania and Greece
An important step has been taken to strengthen the relationship between Lithuania and Greece in the field of economy and business.
The Lithuanian business mission took place in Athens on 3-5 October. The program included a Lithuania-Greece Business Forum, B2M meetings and on-site visits to Greek companies.
The Lithuanian business mission also included a visit by the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation Jovita Neliupšienė.
Representatives of ten Lithuanian companies from the fields of food and beverage, trade, wastewater treatment, electrical and automotive chemical industry, information technology, agriculture and publishing took part in the Lithuanian business mission in Athens.
Speaking at the Greek-Lithuanian Business Forum, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Economics and Innovation presented Lithuania’s economic outlook, favorable business opportunities and economic environment.
While in Athens, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Economics and Innovation also met with Mr. Ioannis Plakiotakis, Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy; Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, Alternate Minister of Development and Investment; Mr. Christos Dimas, Deputy Minister for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Development and Investments; Ms Sofia Zacharaki, Vice-Minister for Tourism and Industry; Mr. Ioannis Bratakos, President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mr. Vasily Logothetis, Vice President of Hellenic Chamber of Shipping and other members of the Chamber Board.
During the meetings, opportunities to enhance the synergies in economic developments of two countries were discussed, as well as ways and means to strengthen bilateral trade and economic relations, including in ship repair and construction and other fields of maritime industries.
According to Lithuania’s ambassador to Greece Rolandas Kačinskas, the Lithuanian business mission and all accompanying discussions and meetings have revealed that Lithuania and Greece have a lot of untapped potential for the development of economic relations.
Ambassador Rolandas Kačinskas said:
“The current status of economic relationship between Lithuania and Greece does not reflect the potential of cooperation between two countries. Lithuania and Greece can offer to each other much more than fruits and tourists. The well-established political and diplomatic relations between Greece and Lithuania would be even stronger if both sides managed to fill them with the content of economic and business cooperation”.
The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Greece organized the Lithuanian business mission and Greece-Lithuania Business Forum together with the Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, and partners on the Greek side: the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), The Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), Greece's investemnt and promotion agency ”Enterprise Greece” and the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The visit of the Lithuanian business mission to Athens was a reciprocal one - in 2019, a Greek business delegation visited Vilnius, during which a Lithuania-Greece Business Forum was also organized.
