Lithuanian citizens can apply for the issuance or renewal of their Lithuanian passports and identity cards through the following methods
- Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Athens: Applications can be submitted directly at the embassy. The processing time from the date of application to receiving the new document typically ranges from several weeks to one and a half months.
- Migration Department in Lithuania
Applications can also be submitted at a chosen migration office within Lithuania.
- Lithuanians residing in Cyprus may also submit their applications through the External service provider VFS Global
The Procedure
- If the application is submitted at the embassy, it is necessary to make an appointment in advance through the KONSREG system.
- Lithuanian citizens aged 16 and over must apply for a passport or identity card in person at the embassy.
- For children under 16, the application must be submitted in person by one of the parents or legal guardians.
- If the child is between 0 and 2 years old, their presence at the embassy is not required.
- However, if the child is over 2 years old, they must be present during the application process.
The Documents
For individuals aged 16 and over:
- passport and/or identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania
- To apply for a Lithuanian passport and/or identity card at the embassy, your permanent place of residence must be officially declared abroad. This is done by submitting a declaration of departure from Lithuania. If you haven’t declared your departure yet, you can do so during your visit to the embassy. If your permanent address is still registered in Lithuania and you do not wish to declare departure, you must apply for the document in Lithuania.
For minors under 16:
- he passport or identity card of the parent or legal guardian submitting the application on behalf of the child.
- The child’s current Lithuanian passport or identity card, if they have one.
- Two recent passport-sized color photos (4 x 6 cm) are required if the child is between 0 and 2 years old.
- The child's place of residence must be declared abroad (this can also be done during the embassy visit).
- If the application is being submitted by a legal guardian rather than a parent, a court decision confirming legal guardianship must also be provided.
Validity Periods for Passports and Identity Cards
